The Emporia State baseball team used a six run fifth inning to extend their winning streak to six games with a 6-4 win at Truman on Sunday.

The Hornets string of 28.1 scoreless innings was broken right away.  After the Hornets left the bases loaded in the top of the first the Bulldogs led off with a triple by Zak Larkin who scored under the tag on Corbin Williams ground ball. Williams would later score for a 2-0 lead.  They would add two more in the bottom of the second for a 4-0 lead.

The Hornets batted around in the fifth, scoring six runs on six hits including doubles by Jordan Slade, Aaron Rea, Luke Slagle and Andrew Blackwell.

Blackwell went three for five with two RBI and a run scored.  Matt Hinkley went 3.2 inning in relief of starter Garrett Bane to get the win.  Hinkley had five strike outs and did not allow a run on four hits.  Keith Picht worked the final 3.2 to earn his third save.  He only allowed one hit and struck out six.

The Hornets are back in action on Tuesday, April 9 when they play host to Missouri Southern.  First pitch from the Trusler Sports Complex is set for 3 p.m.
