TOPEKA, Kan. — The Washburn Ichabod football team has announced its 2013 schedule which will include 10 MIAA games with a home non-conference game mixed in on Oct. 17. Overall the Ichabods will have six games in Yager Stadium this season. The Ichabods finished the 2012 season with a 7-4 record completing their ninth-straight winning season.
The Ichabods will open the 2013 campaign at Nebraska-Kearney on Thursday, Sept. 5 with a 6 p.m. kickoff. The Ichabods topped the Lopers in the first meeting between the two schools since 1988 last season in Topeka in the season opener.
Washburn will have its home opener on Sept. 14 against Fort Hays State with a 6 p.m. kickoff before taking to the road the following week on Sept. 21 when they will take on Northeastern State for another night contest kicking off at 6 p.m.
On Sept. 28, the Ichabods will host Central Oklahoma with a 2:37 p.m. afternoon for Washburn’s family day. The game will also be the MIAA Television Game of the Week. The following week the Ichabods will make their first trip to Bolivar, Mo., since the 2005 season to take on Southwest Baptist with a 2 p.m. kickoff on Oct. 5.
On Oct. 12, Washburn will induct its newest Athletic Hall of Fame class in a morning breakfast and then take on Lincoln with a 1 p.m. start time in Yager Stadium.
The Ichabods’ lone non-conference game will take place on Thursday, Oct. 17 when Washburn will play host to Fort Valley State with the game slated for a 6 p.m. kickoff. The Wildcats finished the 2012 season with an 8-4 reocrd going 7-1 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference falling in the first round of the NCAA playoffs. It will be the first meeting between the Ichabods and the Wildcats.
Washburn will host Lindenwood for Homecoming on Oct. 26 with a 1 p.m. start. After facing the Lions, the Ichabods will travel to Maryville, Mo., to take on Northwest Missouri on Nov. 2 in their second MIAA Television Game of the Week appearance of the season.
Washburn will honor its seniors in the final regular season home game of the year when the Ichabods will entertain Missouri Western starting at 1 p.m. The Ichabods will wrap up the 2013 regular season at Emporia State in the 110th meeting of the Turnpike Tussle with a 1 p.m. kickoff.
The NCAA playoffs start on Nov. 23 and will take place each week up until the Division II Championship game on Dec. 21.
