LAWRENCE, Kan. – Student Senator Kait Perry launched a “Hawks for Boston” campaign late Monday night to raise funds for victims and those impacted by the bombing at the Boston Marathon. Within four hours, the online social media campaign raised over four hundred dollars for the American Red Cross.

Perry came up with the idea to launch the movement late Monday evening. “I called a few of my friends, sent a few emails, and watched in awe as all of my friends began to support this initiative,” Perry stated. “We didn’t really know what to expect going into it, but I’m so excited to see what we can accomplish.”

Members of the Student Senate were asked to forward a message on to their constituents regarding the initiative. Student Body Vice-President, Brandon Woodard stated, “I think this initiative speaks to the true meaning of being a Jayhawk. Our community is one that exists to help others, especially in time of need. I commend Senator Perry’s efforts.”

The group will be tabling on campus on Tuesday, April 16th from 10:00am-2:00pm collecting donations from students and looking into other options to raise funds during the week.
