Yesterday, Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins commended Topeka fifth grader, Saige Halseth for her efforts to help her Shawnee Heights Elementary classmate Alex White replace his beloved service dog, Hope.

“I would like to share a story about Saige Halseth, a 5th grade student at Shawnee Heights Elementary School in Topeka, Kansas, said Jenkins on the House floor yesterday. Who has brought together her community by helping her classmate Alex White.”

White suffers froma progressive neurological condition that affects his balance and mobility. White relied on his service dog Hope until back in March, Hope was killed by a motorist.

“For Alex, Hope was a blessing, a best friend and to quote Alex directly, ‘quite the chick-magnet’.”

Jenkins says because of young people like Alex and Saige, even after the tragedy in Boston, we can indeed always have hope.
