An explosion at a water treatment plant in northeast Topeka appears to have come from a suspended, natural gas-fired heater
But, a spokesperson for the city says, so far, it is unclear what actually caused it to explode.
Topeka firefighters responded to the plant at 1115 NE Poplar in Oakland around 2:30 pm Thursday afternoon.
When they arrived they found that an overhead door on one of the buildings had been blown off its track.
Workers at the plant managed to put out a small fire inside the building before emergency crews arrived.
Kansas Gas Services shut the gas off to the building while crews worked at the scene.
No one was injured and cost of the damage is not yet known.
