Late night shooting injures one

A woman is in the hospital after a shooting Monday night in Topeka.

At about 10:30 Monday night, officers responded to the 3300 block of SW 29th and found a woman with a life threatening gunshot wound inside the apartment building.

Topeka police say the suspect is a black male and was last seen wearing a Carhart jacket with a white bandana over his face.

Police say the suspect fled the scene in the victim’s car, which was found at 3208 SW Eveningside Cedar Ridge apartments. The vehicle was unoccupied.

“We received a call of a female who had been shot in the neck by a light skinned black male earlier this evening. On our arrival we found her in the doorway of the apartment building. Her car apparently stolen,” said Sergeant Shaun Sixkiller, with the Topeka Police.

The victim was taken by AMR to an area hospital.

Officers say this incident is still under investigation, and they are looking for the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at (785) 368-9400 or Crimestoppers at (785) 234-0007.
