A town and school rallied around a boy stricken with cancer at just 14 years old.
From the first pitch on Saturday in Overbrook through every inning until the last out, everyone on and off the diamond pulling for Jakob Askins, who was diagnosed April 22nd with bone cancer after doctors found spots on his lungs and a tumor in his leg.
Jakob, admittedly scared at first, says giving up isn’t an option.
“I immediately thought death, but then I learned it’s not really an option.” says Jakob.
Jakob’s aunt Brianna Brown says “We’re just here to light a fire besides the fire he has of his own, and couldn’t be more happy to be here for such an awesome kid.”
Jakob has already had chemotherapy treatments and has another one this week.
