On May 4, 2013, Gatekeeper Hobbies will give away hundreds of comic books to fans, free of charge, as part of the national Free Comic Book Day celebration. Comic fans of any age can visit the store to pick from a special selection of comics printed for this year’s event.
Free Comic Book Day is a single day – the first Saturday in May each year – when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE to anyone who comes into their stores. Since the inception of Free Comic Book Day, Gatekeeper Hobbies has given away thousands of comic books to help encourage reading and literacy in children, as well as entertain comic book fans of any age.
Not only will there will be dozens of books to choose from, including traditional super heroes like Superman, Batman, and the Hulk, but there will also be a selection of children’s books like Spongebob, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Grown-up fans can enjoy comics like, The Walking Dead, Atomic Robo or Star Wars.
“We’re very proud to take part in Free Comic Book Day,” said Gatekeeper Hobbies co-owner Deon Griffith. “I think people are surprised how much comic books have changed over the years. Comics have as many genres and levels of sophistication as you’d find in a regular bookstore. From super heroes to science fiction to westerns to adaptations of TV shows, there is something printed for everyone.”
Gatekeeper Hobbies is located in the South-West corner of Gage Center and will open at 11 a.m. on May 4, 2013.
