Master Gardeners’ Plant Sale moved to May 11

Green thumbs or gift givers, buy affordable flowers for spring gardens or Mother’s Day presents Saturday morning at the Shawnee County Extension Office.

The sale has been moved to May 11 at 8:00 a.m. and lasts until noon. Jamie Hancock, a  Horticulture Extension Agent at Kansas State Research and Extension said last year’s most coveted plants, like hanging baskets, sold out in six minutes. She recommends arriving before 8:00 a.m. for a better selection.

The sale features ready to plant vinca, double zinnias, coleus, petunias, salvia, impatiens, tomatoes, peppers and hanging baskets. Hancock said the hanging baskets are affordable and make great Mother’s Day gifts. Extension master gardeners raised all the plants for sale.
Prices range from $2.50 for four inch perennials to $20 for hanging baskets. Flats are $18 and vegetable singles are $1.50.

The sale also features a garden shed “thrift shop” for gently used garden tools.

The Shawnee County Extension Office is located at 1740 SW Western Ave, just west of the Expo Centre in Topeka. The sale continues rain or shine. Hancock said payment options include cash or checks only.
