Rocket launch from Va. spaceport rescheduled

WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. (AP) — NASA has rescheduled the Virginia launch of a rocket carrying instruments that will study how the first galaxy was formed.

The Black Brant XII suborbital rocket was scheduled to launch Tuesday night from the Wallops Island Flight Facility. But NASA says there wasn’t sufficient time before the launch to cool the instruments to the required temperature.

The rocket is now scheduled to be launched Wednesday night between 11 p.m. and 11:59 p.m.

The Cosmic Infrared ExperRiment, or CIBER, will study when the first stars and galaxies formed in the universe and how brightly they burned their nuclear fuel.

NASA says the rocket may be visible to residents in the mid-Atlantic region.
