Man arrested for suspicion of setting apartment on fire

The Topeka Fire Department responded to the address of 6117 SW 26th Ct, Apartment C, shortly after 7:25 a.m yesterday morning.

First on scene fire crews found the fire had been extinguished prior to their arrival.

The incident commander requested a fire investigator to respond to the scene to conduct an origin and cause investigation.

The investigation revealed that the origin of the fire was determined to be inside the apartment and the cause of the fire is being classified as intentionally set.

A resident of the apartment, Michael Mellott, 29-year old male, was arrested for aggravated arson.

The estimated property loss associated with this fire is listed as $100.
