Mary Wilson sings in ceremony feting Rep. Dingell

WASHINGTON (AP) — A backup chorus that included Nancy Pelosi, Kathleen Sebelius and actress Lynda Carter has helped singer Mary Wilson serenade congressman John Dingell in a ceremony honoring the longest-serving member of Congress.

Around 400 lawmakers, former colleagues, lobbyists and others paid tribute Thursday to the 86-year-old Michigan Democrat in a reception in the Capitol’s Statuary Hall.

Dingell has served more than 57 years in Congress. House Speaker John Boehner toasted Dingell as a true man of the House.

Also speaking was Vice President Joe Biden, who lampooned his own reputation for long-windedness by warning the audience to sit.

The show was stolen by Wilson, an original member of The Supremes. Her numbers included “Stop in the Name of Love” — with backup help from Pelosi, Sebelius, Carter and others.
