Shooting in Central Topeka, police searching for suspect

At 2:30 this afternoon Topeka Police were called to a shooting at 1324 Western Ave. Apt. 12.

The victim in the shooting was pronounced dead from injuries at 2:40 p.m. Investigation is now for a homicide. The victim has been identified as Benjamin D. Jackson, age 24 of Topeka.

The suspect is described as a black male in his late teens or early twenties, hair cut into a “fade”, 5’5 to 5-7″ tall, wearing red shorts and no shirt, last seen running south from the area on foot. He was carrying a black shirt, and may be traveling in a silver 4-door vehicle.

Police are on the scene, and the investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at 368-9400, or Crime Stoppers at 234-0007.
