It’s time to play ball at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Topeka. The organization teamed up with former Major League Baseball player Ken Berry and the Topeka Active 20/30 Club to construct a new baseball field on the grounds of the youth complex.
“It’s something that I could do to give back,” Berry said. “There’s always something you can do and with baseball I spent 41 years professionally and I just felt why not.”
Berry was the main architect who saw the opportunity of creating a baseball diamond for the youth at the club.
“I knew I could find time to put this thing together. It was pretty easy on my part – just had a little labor of love out there with a rake and a hoe and that sort of thing.”
The renovation process began over the winter and now field is ready for play.
