Basketball players from KU and Emporia State teamed up for a great cause on Tuesday.   Perry Ellis and Landen Lucas of the Jayhawks made a trip to Emporia and were special guests at Shaun Vandiver’s Little Hornets Basketball Camp.

“It’s great,” Ellis said. “They get so excited to see us. It’s just great to give back and let them have fun.”

“This is something that’s fun for me to do I get to see how big the Kansas fan base really is,” Lucas said. “There’s Kansas fans all over the state, all over the country and these kids are excited to see us so I’m just happy to be here.”

Ellis teamed up with ESU’s Terrence Moore.  They were teammates at Wichita Heights High School where the duo won four state championships.

“It’s great getting to see him again, it was so much fun the four years I had in high school playing with him,” Ellis said.

“We won the title and it’s good to come back and play against the campers and have laughs and giggles,” Moore said.

There’s plenty of expectations once again for Kansas. The Jayhawks just welcomed in a pair of McDonald’s All-Americans – Andrew Wiggins and Wayne Selden.

“There’s definitely a lot of new faces but there are some great players we have some great incoming freshman and great transfers kids coming so we’re looking for a big year,” Ellis said.

“We just got our whole team together for the first time yesterday with Wiggins here and I can already tell it’s going to be a great year,” Lucas said.
