Early this morning at approximately 2:19, the Topeka Fire Department responded to 3228 SW Westwood Ct. on a report of a structure fire. First responding companies reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the single-family dwelling. The sole occupant of the dwelling had self evacuated prior to the arrival of suppression crews. Suppression crews initiated an aggressive interior attack of the fire. Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire, confining the damage to the structure of origin.
An Investigator responded to the scene, and completed an origin and cause scene investigation. Investigation revealed the origin of the fire was in the kitchen, on or near the stove top. This fire is being classified as accidental, associated with an unattended stove top.
- Three (3) Engine Companies, two (2) Truck Companies, two (2) Battalion Chiefs, one (1) safety Officer, and one (1) Investigator responded to this incident.
- No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
- Damage is estimated at $60,000.00 in structural damage and $40,000.00 in content damage.
