Royals sign No. 34 overall draft pick Sean Manaea

KANSAS CITY, MO (June 21, 2013) — The Kansas City Royals today announced the club has signed Competitive Balance draft choice Sean Manaea, the 34th overall pick in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft.

The 21-year old Manaea, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound left-handed pitcher from Indiana State University, was 5-4 with a 1.47 ERA in 13 starts for the Sycamores this season.  He struck out 93 batters in 73.1 innings pitched, ranking third in the NCAA with 11.4 strikeouts per 9.0 innings.  He was named Second Team All-Missouri Valley and to the preseason Golden Spikes Award watch list.
