Detroit mayoral candidate tries to cause confusion

DETROIT (AP) — An entrant into the Detroit mayor’s race is taking aim at write-in candidate Mike D-U-G-G-A-N (DUH’-gihn).

This new candidate’s name?

Mike D-U-G-E-O-N (DUH’-zhihn).

According to the Detroit Free Press, City Clerk Janice Winfrey confirms the barber with no known political experience turned in paperwork this week declaring his intent to run as a write-in.

The original Duggan was a leading candidate heading into the primary before a judge knocked him off the ballot because he hadn’t been a registered voter in Detroit long enough before filing.

Now the ex-health care executive is running a write-in campaign, needing to finish at least second Aug. 6 to appear on the November general election ballot.

Standing in his way, though, is the new Dugeon, who tells WJBK-TV he’s “in it to win it.”
