Copper theft at Westar: Police arrest male suspect, searching for second

At approximately 2:00 this morning, Topeka Police Officers and Shawnee County Sheriff’s  Deputies were dispatched to the Westar Energy Operations Center at 4001 N.W. 14th in reference to an theft that was in progress.

Two men had cut the fence, and had removed multiple spools of copper cable from the yard. Officers arrived on scene, and the two suspects fled. One suspect was able to elude officers, while the second suspect, identified as Jody Oakley, age 43 of Topeka, was located in a nearby cornfield and arrested.

Oakley was booked on Theft, Criminal Trespassing, and Criminal Damage.
