An inmate who escaped from the Hutchinson Correctional Facility on Saturday has turned himself into authorities Tuesday morning.
Mark Lucas was believed to have been making his way to Topeka following his escape.
He had been convicted of a number of shoplifting crimes in Topeka. He’s been described as a “serial shoplifter.”
Jeremy Barclay, spokesman for the Kansas Department of Corrections told Kansas First News that Lucas was apprehended safely in Topeka.
He contacted authorities and his family to say goodbye.
He was taken safely and calmly around 8:15 a.m. and booked into the Shawnee County Jail.
Lucas contacted Kansas First News early this morning to inform he would be turning himself into authorities.
