Washburn football returned to the field at Yager Stadium, not for a game, but to pose for the camera as the team held its annual media day.
“ I think we can be a much stronger team,” Washburn head coach Craig Schurig said. “I think we’re more physical and faster than we were last year and we’re very anxious to get practice started.”
The first game of the season is September 7 at Nebraska-Kearney.
“This is family,” Sophomore running back Donnie Lockhart said. “We’re all brothers here and it feels really good to be back out here and ready to get to work.”
The Ichabods return many experienced players from a season ago, including quarterback Mitch Buhler.
“After the end of last season we kind of had a bitter taste in our mouths and worked hard this summer to get ready for this season and I think we’re ready to go,” Buhler said
Washburn finished (7-4) last season and missed out on the postseason.
“We don’t want to be in the middle of the pack, we want to be back at the top and that’s what we’re trying to do,” Senior linebacker Bryce Atagi said. “I feel like we have the depth and the talent to do it so we just have to put everything together and it should be a great year.”
