Nearly 100 professional golfers are on display this week at Firekeeper Golf Course in Mayetta. The Adams Golf Pro Tour Series makes the Firekeeper Classic as one of its stops.

“It’s just fun to have this many golfers,” Randy Towner, Firekeeper Golf Course head professional said. “When you think back four years ago this was a field and now we have a mini-tour event and we’re all pretty proud about that.”

Last year, Firekeeper held a similar pro tournament. The Adams Golf Pro Tour Series visited Garden City last week and scheduled a tournament next week at Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan.

“It’s a hard golf course for the average player but these guys are not having any trouble with it at all,” Towner said. “Guys are tearing it up pretty good. For those of you at home that have played Firekeeper and say ‘oh, man that’s hard.’ Not so hard for these fellas.”

The leader after round one is Oscar Stark from Sweden who set the course record with a 9-under 63.
