Turkey’s Erdogan denies he was hospitalized

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is denying Turkish media reports that he had been hospitalized, saying that he had just taken a few days off to rest.

The normally tireless Erdogan, 59, had not been seen in public since a Muslim religious holiday that ended Aug. 10, leading to speculation about his health.

The prime minister told journalists on Thursday that “I am well… There was no hospital or anything like that. I just rested for a few days.”

He called reports about his health “lies.”

Two years ago, Erdogan vanished for several days before officials announced he had surgery to remove polyps from his intestines. Doctors said no trace of cancer was found.
