Man charged with cruelty after puppy found dead

ARREST

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Wichita police responding to a reported burglary instead found a puppy that had been beaten to death with a baseball bat.

KWCH-TV (http://bit.ly/180Zy5x) reports someone called police Monday night to report a burglary, but when police arrived they found the dead dog. The 27-year-old man who lives at the home was arrested on a charge of cruelty to animals.

A neighbor says she thinks the dog belonged to the man who was arrested. She says man had lived in the home for only a couple months.

Police spokesman Lt. Doug Nolte says he did not know the age or the breed of the dog.
