Rossville enjoyed plenty of success in 2012 as the Bulldawgs advanced all the way to the Class 3A state semifinals.

Now, there’s a new head coach at Rossville.

Derick Hammes takes over the reigns of the program after he and Steve Buhler (Washburn Rural) switched positions.

“I really enjoy it over here,” Hammes said. “Our kids throughout the summer and throughout the early days of camp they’ve been excellent. Their effort has been great, they really have an eagerness to learn and we’ve had a lot of fun trying to get better.”

Both losses for Rossville last season came at the hands of War on 24 rival, Silver Lake.

“It’s about keeping up the tradition and taking it one step farther this year, getting to state and not coming up short,” Rossville senior quarterback Zach Nitsch said.

The Bulldawgs return a talented and experienced senior class. The formula is simple.

“Just work hard every day and make everyday worth it,” Rossville senior running back Devin Morris said. “Every rep just go hard as you can and keep up the good pace and tempo.”

“Whenever you have the leaders of your group to buy in to a new system it really makes the transition smooth,” Hammes said. “Hats off to the seniors, they’ve done an excellent job with that.”

Rossville begins the season against Chapman.
