A standoff near Washburn University ended peacefully Tuesday morning.  It ended at around 7:45 with three people exiting the house and 1 being placed in handcuffs.

Topeka Police officers and the police response team were at the scene of a standoff near Washburn University Tuesday morning.  A shift commander with the police department tells Kansas First News it all began shortly after 4:30 at a house just north of SW 21st and Washburn.

Police say at least one person has barricaded himself in the house after a woman fled the home earlier, fearing for her safety.  After she was able to leave, she called police.  While police worked the incident, they closed both northbound and southbound lanes of  Washburn Avenue from 21st street to Hampton street, which is just north of 21st street.  Also, westbound traffic on 21st at Buchanan is closed and traffic is being diverted northbound.

We’ll have more on this story as it develops.
