Veterans and their families got to recreate a “Troop Train” as a Labor Day treat at Gage Park yesterday.

From the Mexican-American War in the 1840s until the early part of the Vietnam War, troops were transported across the country in trains.

When those trains stopped at rail road depots, townsfolk would give soldiers food, cards, or cigarettes to wish them well.
