Blake Pierce and the Seaman Vikings lost several starters to graduation after last year’s Class 5A playoff team.
This year, the Vikings are prime to compete for another return trip to the postseason.
“We have a nice group of seniors that graduated and this group we of seniors that we have stepping up are doing a great job so far,” Pierce said. “That was a concern but they had a great summer and I’m excited and ready to see what these guys can do.”
One of the goals for Seaman is to find consistency on the field. The Vikings went on four sets of streaks during the season. They won three straight games to start the season, then lost three in a row, won two more and then finished with back-to-back losses against Shawnee Heights and Blue Valley West (first round of 5A playoffs).
“I think we’re a lot more focused this year,” Seaman senior quarterback Ryder Chaffee said. “I thought this summer we put in a lot more hard work. It’s just been a great summer all-around and we’re ready for that first game to come.”
Seaman begins the 2013 campaign at home against Hayden.
“I think that the young guys are really following our leadership, really good this year and everybody is behind it, ready to do good and ready to play Hayden,” Seaman senior safety/running back said.
