The Topeka West Junior ROTC, band, students and teachers observed those lost when planes flew into the World Trade Centers.

At 8:45 this morning, the time the first plane hit the first tower they raised the flag to half staff and played taps.

The Senior Army Instructor at Topeka West says it’s important the kids remember what happened since most were very young 12 years ago.

Across town the Topeka High Marine Corps JROTC cadets recounted the times and timelines that happened on the frightful day 12 years ago.

This year the cadets honored the first responders who ran toward the sound of terrorism and chaos.

They also celebrated the joys of how the Nation banded together to show resolve.
