City Council raises Westar fee

You could be seeing your utility bill  getting a little more expensive.

Tuesday night  the Topeka city council approved a measure that would increase the fee it charges Westar Energy by one percent.

That raises the cost from 5 percent to 6 percent the city charges the company  to use its right of way.

That increase is expected to be passed on to you – the rate payer.

The governing body passed the proposal on a 7 to 2 vote.

The increase will bring the city an estimated 600-thousand dollars a year in additional revenue.
