Social Media is playing a big role in the search for the husband of a Kansas State University professor who has been missing since the beginning of September and after another search yesterday, authorities still have no idea of where he could be.

Riley County Police spread out across the area to search for 54 year old David Welch of Manhattan.

The last time he was seen was on September 2, 2013 at his Manhattan home.  Also missing is his van.

Police say no foul play is suspected.  But word has spread on social media by the family with a Facebook page and Tweets looking for help in finding Welch.

Kansas First News reached out to the family but they had no comment.

After a month, Riley County Police Department says it’s not unusual for a case like this to take this long.

“At this point, we still have no credible reason to believe that there’s any risk or danger involved, says Administration Division Commander,” Tim Hegarty. “We just have someone who is missing.  People that have Alzheimer’s, people that have dementia, based upon our discussions is that none of those conditions apply to this individual which is why we haven’t issued a silver alert.”

Riley County Police say this search yesterday was the fourth time they have been out looking for Welch since he went missing.

If anyone has information on Welch, contact law enforcement.
