Man killed by train identified

AmTrak-Train

The 30 year old male who was struck by a train on January 18, 2014, has been identified as Brandon B. Toler, of Topeka.

Last Saturday at 12:47 a.m. Shawnee County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the area of SW University /SW Topeka Boulevard in reference to a pedestrian who was struck by a southbound AMTRAK train.

Upon arrival deputies met with members of the train crew, who reported they struck a subject that was running alongside the railroad tracks.  The crew members signaled with their horn and immediately activated the train’s emergency brake system, coming to a complete stop approximately ½ mile down the line.

Deputies located Toler north of University along the west side of the tracks.  He was transported to a Topeka hospital by AMR where he died.    None of the passengers on the train were believed to be injured as a result of the collision.  This incident remains under investigation.
