Topeka City Council approves $750,000 to inspect levees

Topeka city leaders approved on a resolution to spend $750,000 to inspect the levees along the Kansas River- to ensure they’re ready for a major flood.

The Topeka City Council approved the measure….unanimously at Tuesday’s meeting.

A city report indicated that the levee system protects about a billion dollars worth of homes, businesses, roads, and public utilities.

FEMA recently de-certified Kansas River levees and the report says various repairs will have to be made to meet FEMA standards for a 100 year flood.
