Amber Alert Timing

The Amber Alert issued Tuesday night was broadcast in multiple states through radio, television and cell phones.

Amber Alerts and other emergency warnings about weather and terrorist attacks are sent to phones through the integrated Public Alert Warning System.

It’s called “WEA” (Wireless Emergency Alerts). It’s part of a larger integrated public alert and warning system created in 2006.

The KBI says they create the alert and then send the information to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The notifications come through a special cell signal designed to quickly send out information without signal congestion.
