Arson investigation underway after vehicles, stairwell torched

MANHATTAN, Kan. (KSNT) – An arson investigation is underway after in Manhattan after two vehicles and a stairwell were torched early this morning. Around 2:10 AM, the Riley County Police Department and Manhattan answered a fire call in the 800 block of Moro Street in Manhattan. They arrived to find a car on vehicle. Approximately 5 minutes later another report of fire came in and officers responded to a stairwell at an apartment complex located at 801 Moro Street. Within the next 45 minutes a fire call came in from 823 Laramie where another vehicle had been ignited. There were no injuries.

A Nissan owned by 28-year-old Hector Pedroza, a Toyota Camry owned by 21-year-old Ellyn Calvert, and a Ford F350 owned by Michael Petrie suffered an estimated $26,000 in damages.

The initial investigation found high probability that they were incendiary in nature. This investigation is ongoing.
