Union believes low wages reason county services suffer

Teamster Union members claim Shawnee County services are suffering because employees are not getting a raise.

President of Teamster Local 696, Mike Scribener said the low wages are the main reason annual turnover is 30 percent among employees at the county jail.

Commissioners scheduled a hearing Monday morning because of an impasse between the county and employees represented by union leaders.

The county offered no pay hike in a recent contract, while the union sought step increases in pay.
