Hit and run accident sends 2 to hospital, 1 to jail

On Wednesday at approximately 4:33 p.m. an injury accident occurred at the intersection of Walnut Street and Riley Avenue in Ogden.  A 2004 Lincoln LS being operated by 38-year-old Johnny Cossey of Ogden who was traveling northbound on Walnut Street across Riley Avenue when it collided with two motorcycles that were traveling westbound on Riley Avenue.

The operators of the motorcycles were identified as 48-year-old James Garrett III and 29-year-old Steven Cannon Jr, both of whom reside in Ogden.

James Garrett III was transported via Life Star Helicopter to Via Christi Hospital in Wichita for injuries he received in the accident.  Garrett’s current condition is unknown at this time.  Steven Cannon Jr was transported by Riley County EMS to Mercy Regional Hospital in Manhattan for injuries he received in the accident.  Cannon’s current condition is also unknown.

Johnny Cossey, the operator of the 2004 Lincoln LS, was ultimately located by officers at 321 N. Park Street in Ogden at approximately 7:04 p.m.  Cossey was placed under arrest at that time for leaving the scene of an injury accident.  Cossey is currently being held at the Riley County Jail on a $7,000 bond.

The investigation into the injury accident is still on-going at this time.
