At 9:00 Monday morning, the Shawnee County Emergency Communication Center received a call from a citizen concerning a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed near S. Topeka Blvd and SW 57th St.  The vehicle was described as a red passenger car.  While deputies were responding to the area, an accident was reported near the intersection of SW Glencrest Drive and SW 71st Terrace involving a red passenger car.

Deputies arrived and located a red 2002 Honda Accord, with extensive damage, in the front yard of a residence in the 7100 block of SW Glencrest Dr.  The vehicle, driven by 32-year-old Robert E. Day III of Topeka, was traveling west on SW 71st Terrace when it struck a 2010 Mazda 3 that was legally parked in the roadway.  The Honda then exited the roadway, crossed through a yard, and came to rest after striking a 2013 Jeep Cherokee parked in a driveway.

Day was transported to Stormont Vail Hospital with non life threatening injuries and is expected to be charged with reckless driving and driving without a license.

The Shawnee Heights Fire Dept., along with American Medical Response, assisted at the scene.

The accident is still under investigation.
