Donation to Washburn Tech to help build skill sets

A gift to Washburn Tech will help students build their skill sets.

the Kansas Contractors Associate Construction Education Foundation presented a check for $2,700 Tuesday morning.

The donation completes an 85 hundred dollar commitment from the association which paid for a motor grader simulator for the school’s commercial and heavy construction program. The simulator lets students learn how to operate heavy equipment.

The Kansas Contractors Association Executive Vice President says this program fills a need in Kansas.

“We need workers and there are jobs available,” says Bob Totten. “It’s just a matter of getting people to apply, we have needs in the United States and here in Kansas for sure. A need for highway construction but we also need workers to make sure it happens so there is a desperate demand for good employees.”

The program offers a one year certificate to students, introducing the basic skills used in heavy construction projects.
