LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – Several tornadoes have been reported across southeastern Nebraska, and the storm is threatening the Lincoln area Sunday evening.
A line of strong thunderstorms developed in south-central Nebraska near Hastings Sunday. The National Weather Service says the storm produced tornadoes and large hail for several hours as it moved east.
The storm damaged grain bins, power poles and irrigation systems as it moved across mostly rural areas of the state. Tornadoes were reported near Clay Center, Sutton and just northwest of Lincoln.
The storm knocked down several farm outbuildings west of Sutton and blew debris across U.S. Highway 6, forcing officials to close the highway.
The strongest part of the storm continued moving northeast after passing near Lincoln shortly before 6 p.m.
