EMPORIA, Kan. – Four members of the MIAA Champion Emporia State softball team earned Daktronics All-Central Region honors as voted on by sports information directors from the MIAA, Northern Sun and Great American Conferences. Stephanie Goodwin and Jessica Gragg earned first-team All-Region honors while Taylor Zordel and Kaitlyn Caston were named to the second-team. All four are set to return next year for the Hornets.

Goodwin was a unanimous first-team All-MIAA selection in the outfield. She led the MIAA in hits and doubles, was third in the league in batting average, fifth in runs scored, and sixth in on base percentage. Her 19 doubles are the second most in a season at Emporia State. She also had seven outfield assists from center field. She was a second-team All-MIAA performer in the outfield as a sophomore. She was named MIAA Freshman of the Year and first-team All-MIAA in 2012. She earned second-team NFCA All-American and third-team Daktronics All-American honors as a freshman designated player.

Gragg was a first team All-MIAA selection this year at third base. She is ranked second in the MIAA in RBI, 8th in on base percentage, 9th in slugging percentage and 11th in home runs. Her 62 RBI rank fifth all-time for a single season at Emporia State. She has come back from knee injury suffered during the NCAA Tournament her freshman year that limited her last year. She was named 2nd-team All-MIAA as a freshman.

Caston is leading the nation in wins this year with an MIAA record 36 victories. She is tied for 28th in NCAA Division II history with the 36 wins.  She was a second-team All-MIAA pick in her first year with the Hornets after transferring from Muscatine (Iowa) CC.

Zordel is a two-time first-team All-MIAA selection at shortstop for the Hornets. She is second in the MIAA in doubles and third in stolen bases while leading the league in assists. She earned her second straight Capital One Academic All-Region honor this year. She was named third-team NFCA All-American as an at-large selection at shortstop last year. As a sophomore she was a first-team NFCA All-Region and All-MIAA selection and earned second-team Daktronics honors.

The Hornets ended their season 49-13 after advancing to the NCAA Tournament for an MIAA record 11th straight year. The 49 wins are the fifth most in a single season at Emporia State. The Hornets have recorded at least 35 wins in each of the last 12 seasons.
