WAYS TO SAVE: Clothing

TOPEKA, Kan. – Love to shop for clothes, but hate what it does to your wallet? Here are some tips to save money and still fill your closet with clothes you love.

Tip #1: Coupons, coupons, coupons!

Sign up for mail or email coupons at your favorite stores, or check out sites like Retail Me Not to find great online deals. And if you can’t get a discount now, wait until you can. Everything goes on sale eventually!

Tip #2: Sell what you don’t wear.

Go to consignment stores like Plato’s Closet or Topeka Fashion Exchange. They’ll pay you for your gently used clothes.

And after you have money in your pocket…

Tip #3: Shop at those consignment stores or thrift stores.

Discounted clothing, anyone?

Tip #4: Buy out of season.

Buy your swimsuits at the end of swimsuit season and your coats at the end of winter when they’re on sale.

Tip #5: Check the tag.

Don’t buy something that’s “dry clean only.” You don’t want to have to keep paying for your clothes after you’ve already bought them!

Tip #6: Buy basics from generic brands.

Your basics don’t need a designer label. Buy T-shirts, tanks, and pajamas from cheaper stores. Save the splurge for unique additions to your wardrobe.

Tip #7: Don’t buy something just because it’s on sale.

Only buy clothes when you need them. And when you need them, make sure they’re on sale too!
