Events in Topeka commemorating Brown v. Board anniversary

Several events will take place in Topeka, Kansas this week to commemorate the ground breaking Brown v Board of Education decision.

Monroe Kindergarten (National Park Service)

See the National Park Service’s renovation of the old Monroe kindergarten room. Restored to look like it did in the early 1950s, the room will contain games, toys and books from the period.

The First Lady will be coming to Topeka for a special senior recognition event to celebrate the 60 year anniversary of the landmark 1954 Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka decision.

Legacy Walk (National Park Service)

Walk from Monroe Elementary to Sumner Elementary, reversing the path travelled before the Supreme Court ended segregation in Topeka and the Nation’s schools.   Two-hour ranger-led walk. Wear comfortable shoes. Return transportation will be available.
