Sherow files for Candidacy

Jim Sherow made it official.

He wants US Congressman Tim Huelskamp’s seat.

The former Manhattan City Commissioner and Mayor filed for the 1st Congressional District of Kansas today at the Secretary of State’s Office.

Sherow says part of the reason he’s running is because in the three years Huelskamp has been in office he didn’t sponsor a single bill to benefit the resident of the first district.

Sherow says it’s important for the state to have someone with a strong voice for agricultural policy.

“There’s pressing agricultural issues and we don’t have a representative now on the ad committee, so how can farm interests of Kansas be properly represented, how can we bring about cooperation in Congress unless people are willing to go there and work with others,” Sherow said.

Sherow will face Bryan Whitney in the primary in August.

The winner of that race will face the winner of the republican primary between Huelskamp, and challengers Kent Roth and Alan LaPolice.
