H.S. state swimming gets underway

TOPEKA, Kan. – Free State out of Lawrence has a strong showing on day one for class 6A.

Manhattan and Washburn Rural advance a few participants into Saturday’s championship heats.

The Lady Indians captured the Centennial League title.

In the class 5-1A portion, plenty of Centennial League teams to keep an eye on.

The Lady Spartans of Emporia qualify 6th in the 200-yard medley relay.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Seaman freshman, Mckynley Larson, placed 2nd in the prelims, while a pair of Lady Spartans rounded out the top eight.

Larson also dominated the 500-yard freestyle and will be the favorite heading into the final.

Shawnee Heights Hanna McGowan qualified 2nd in the 200-yard IM. Topeka West’s Camille Parman and Hayden’s Gabby Vosburgh will be in tomorrow’s final heat.

The Lady Chargers Laura Dicus was one spot off the top qualifying time in the 50-yard freestyle.

And in the 200-yard freestyle, Emporia qualified in 5th, while Hayden came in 7th.

The finals for 5-1A begin at 10:30am on Saturday, and 6A follows at 3:30pm at the Capitol Federal Natatorium in Topeka.
