Silver Lake softball repeats as 3A state champions

TOPEKA – Silver Lake jumped ahead early against Riverton and needed one out from relief pitcher Megan Deiter to claim the Class 3A state softball championship at Hummer Sports Park.

Allison Christy pitched six scoreless innings but ran into some trouble in the 7th inning. Riverton recorded three consecutive hits that produced a run and added a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit 3-2. Deiter came in and inherited a runner on 3rd base but struck out Sydnee Donaldson, the only batter she faced.

“It’s a great thing for the kids and the girls,” Silver Lake head softball coach Mark Workman said. “Softball is a super platform to teach these gals to be confident, to be tough and we’re just thankful for the day and they’re going to cherish what they earned here for a long, long time.”

Silver Lake earned its second straight Class 3A state softball crown. The Lady Eagles finished the 2014 season with a record of (25-1).
