TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – United Healthcare is awarding 1.5 million dollars in grants to the program “Empower Kansas.”

It’s part of a three-year initiative to help Kansans with disabilities find meaningful employment.

At an awards ceremony United Health announced the organizations receiving the grants.

A speaker at the event said the grants provide more than just a job title.

“Some of the first things that people ask when you meet someone is ‘What do you do?’ That’s because what you do everyday is a source of fulfillment, source of social interaction, a place to build relationships, and ultimately a place to contribute to society.” said United Healthcare President Tim Spilker.

Three Topeka organizations are included on the list, Valeo Behavioral Healthcare, The Disability Rights Center and the Kansas Association of Centers for Independent Living.”
