Officers meet at statehouse for ‘Leg of the Torch Run’

The Kansas Special Olympics Torch is on its way to Wichita.

Officers taking part in the Topeka to Coffey County Leg of the Torch Run lit the torch at the statehouse Wednesday.

The ceremony saw the officers on their way south to Beto Junction. They’re part of 950 officers from across the state who are taking part in the run.

The torch will travel approximately 1,500 miles through Kansas.

The event leads up to the Special Olympic Games in Wichita when Brayden Hugunin of Burlington, who was the most inspirational athlete of 2013 will light the cauldron this Friday.
