New trading tool at Farmers Market

If you’re going by the Farmer’s Market this weekend you may notice a new type of trading tool.

More and more vendors are now accepting tokens as part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

The Department of Agriculture has been working to make fresh foods from these markets available to people of all income levels.

Kansas State University Nutrition Specialist Sandy Procter says it’s important for all families to have access to nutritious food.

“You can be malnourished and overweight and we know that’s often the case, particularly with persons who have limited incomes because they aren’t always able to afford the variety of foods and nutrition-dense food that they need for good health.”

About 3,000 of the 8,000 farmer’s markets in the country are snap accessible.
