Arrest made in Lawrence weekend gun violence incidents

A release from the Lawrence Kansas Police Department stated that officers from the Lawrence Police Department arrested one individual yesterday evening in connection with two gun related crimes which occurred early Saturday morning.

The first incident occurred around 12:30am outside Shots, 1008 Massachusetts.  During that incident two rival gang members were involved in an altercation which led to one individual being threatened with a handgun on the sidewalk in front of the business.

The two individuals separated, without the firearm being discharged.  After the bar closed an after-hours party at the Grove Apartments, 4301 West 24th Place, occurred and many patrons from the bar gathered near the pool.  At 2:38am Lawrence Police responded to the report of a shooting at the Grove Apartments.  Witnesses reported multiple gunshots being fired near the pool and at least one person being struck.  The injured person, an eighteen year old Topeka resident, was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.

Last night Lawrence Police officers arrested a suspect in both incidents near an apartment in the 1900 Heatherwood Drive.  He was taken into custody without incident.  Detectives continue to investigate the shooting to determine if other individuals were involved.  Anyone with information on these crimes is asked to call the Lawrence Police Department at 785-832-7509 or CrimeStoppers at 843-TIPS(8477).  Rewards of up to $1000 may be may be given by CrimeStoppers for information in this case.
